RSS is feature of getting in touch with the recent updates, news and various other things. Now days with the changing era of the globalization and with the increase in the competitive level in the society today, every thing is becoming an integral part of income. Such as these RSS blog which is also becoming a part of money making merchandising tool and it is actually true. Looking into the background of blog, it may seem that the reason why it was started is actually the rearwards (quite opposite) what it is today.

Earlier it was means of conveying personal message and the medium was internet. Now the medium is still unchanged, but the only change which is presently seen is in the way of writing these blogs. Now there are as lashing topics as there are people who are writing these small dissevers of writing, which are written to draw people attention towards it, so that these bloggers can earn some money. Blogs are a way of drawing attention of the people towards a particular site and increase the traffic for the site.

RSS is a kind of formats which the sites can employ in order to update the headlines for the users and the medium could be any site, such as My Yahoo! It is site which gathers information from a assortment of sources and enabling the user to have a glance at it by displaying all the matter in a flash at once.

So, at the last it is better and more effectual to get all the latest information and news through only single site, rather than wasting so much time in searching more than one site for the same piece of information. A smart person is one who can get the information at very less expense of time, who do you want to be?????

The term RSS can be elaborated as Really Simple Syndication. It is a class of web formats which are used to release updated and standardized works such as headlines, blog and many more which are available at interchangeable formats. RSS web feeds, which are available on internet, can be accessed by using software’s such as “RSS reader” or “aggregator”. The software’s which are used can be PC based, mobile based or also can be web based.

RSS acronym is basically based on XML format which is standardized so that the data can be promulgated only once and can be considered by many more programs. The reader has only one way to access the RSS feed and that is through a single click of the mouse on the icon, this click allows the user to commence the procedure of subscription. By this procedure the user is always in contact with any new updates, new work and downloads which are newly available. It provides a port between the user and the computer.

These RSS arranges were antedated by several endeavors at web merchandising, which was not as successful as these RSS arranges and did not accomplish far-flung popularity. Every RSS version has a unique and identical extension which makes it potential for apiece branch to trail excogitations in the various other branches. Some of the RSS formats with a unique extension was much widely used in various pod casting software and also used by iTunes, it is the famous “RSS 2.*”.

The chief aim of the RSS web feeds and also the modules is basically to flourish the basic scheme of XML, which is fundamentally evolved for much more racy marketing of content. This basically enables for much more versatile trades without actually altering the core of RSS modules. Hence, it provides a much better exchangeable way of providing new updates to the user.

Pluck is a newsreader that integrates with Internet Explorer, a nice feature for users who want to read newsfeeds inside their default Windows browser. As such, Pluck offers additional tools not found in competing programs, including the ability to manage Web bookmarks across multiple computers, share Web pages and notes with friends, and sort and filter Amazon, eBay, and Google queries. Pluck’s best feature is that it’s free without banner ads or spyware. To test Pluck, we downloaded and installed a beta copy (version 0.9.2.53).

Once setup is complete, Internet Explorer loads with the new Pluck component. Some IE users may object to Pluck’s usurpation of browser window real estate–Pluck’s RSS Reader column gobbles up nearly a third of the left-hand IE screen–but you can easily shrink this column by dragging its borders with your mouse. The excellent Getting Started page explains the main components of Pluck’s multipane interface, which, in addition to the RSS Reader column, includes a headline pane that displays story summaries from a particular site or blog and a browser window that allows you to read individual stories.

NewsGator 2.6 is a unique newsreader, in that it integrates with Microsoft Outlook, thereby allowing Outlook users to browse newsfeeds from within the same program that delivers daily e-mail.

This $29 program has a helpful setup wizard that simplifies installation, which took about five minutes in our tests. Once you install NewsGator and open Outlook, NewsGator walks you through creating folders for News And Clippings so that your incoming news won’t get mixed up with e-mail.

Unfortunately, getting started with NewsGator Inbox for Outlook 2.6 requires a bit more tweaking than with standalone newsreaders, such as Awasu, FeedDemon, as well as Web-based services such as Bloglines and Rojo. For instance, the program comes with only two preset subscriptions–both of which deliver NewsGator product news. Fortunately, adding an RSS feed in NewsGator is easy, thanks to the program’s Feed Wizard, which allows you to browse a directory of popular feeds, from technology-oriented blogs to mainstream news content from the BBC, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and other popular sources. You can look up any subject, whether fuel cells or frogs or whatever tickles your fancy, to locate related feeds from mainstream publications as well as blogs and podcasts. NewsGator automatically retrieves newsfeeds every hour, a default setting that you can change easily, to every 15 minutes, for instance, via the NewsGator menu on the Outlook toolbar. And NewsGator’s other settings, such as those for podcasts, afford plenty of customization. NewsGator’s integration with FeedStation enables you to store podcasts in a folder to enable quick downloads to an iPod or a Windows Media Player handheld.

FeedDemon is a well-crafted standalone newsreader that’s ideal for novices who’ve never heard of an RSS feed. The $29 FeedDemon features an outstanding setup wizard that explains basic newsreader concepts (“A channel is a source of news items. For example, the RSS feed for the New York Times is a channel.”) For some, this advice may be a bit basic. Nonetheless, we have to give kudos to the vendor, Bradbury Software, for explaining a relatively new software genre to the uninitiated masses.

Like its competitors, FeedDemon installs in less than a minute. In our tests, download and installation took a few minutes and proceeded without a hitch. We particularly liked FeedDemon’s setup wizard, which allows you to subscribe to an unlimited number of popular RSS feeds by simply checking a box besides each feed’s name. Of course, there are thousands of other feeds on the Net, so FeedDemon provides links to several other RSS directories.

FeedDemon’s interface is very good; however, its default setting, which places the headline and browser panes side by side, is somewhat clumsy. Reading a news story in the undersize browser requires incessant scrolling. Fortunately, you can relocate the browser to the bottom via the View pull-down menu, giving you a wider browser.

According to Awasu Personal Edition 2.0’s About screen, the name of this product is Japanese for “to join together.” If so, this standalone free newsreader is aptly named: it deftly aggregates content from dozens of RSS-compatible sites, combining a variety of feeds into a slick, highly configurable interface that’s a breeze to navigate.

Awasu’s multipane interface offers a bird’s-eye view of your RSS feeds. The left-side Control Center column lists the channels that you’ve subscribed to, such as Yahoo Business News, New York Times, and Salon.com. The item pane, upper right, shows the latest headlines from a specific channel. Directly below it is the browser pane, which functions as a standard Web browser and displays articles in their full HTML glory, complete with banner ads and pop-ups.

Awasu’s 4.15MB setup file takes just a few minutes to download and install, after which the program displays a page of suggested channels to get you started. Whenever you click the orange XML newsfeed icon on any Web page, Awasu’s Channel Wizard loads and leads you through the subscription process. The new channel is then added to the left-hand Control Center pane. It’s all quite slick and easy to use.

ScriptingNews format, designed by DW at UserLand. 12/27/97.

RSS 0.90, designed by Netscape, for use with my.netscape.com, which also supported scriptingNews format. The only thing about it that was RDF was the header, otherwise it was plain garden-variety XML. 3/15/99.

ScriptingNews 2.0b1, designed by DW at UserLand, enhanced to include all the features in RSS 0.90. Privately DW urged Netscape to adopt the features in this format that weren’t present in RSS 0.90. 6/15/99.

RSS 0.91, designed by Netscape, spec written by Dan Libby, includes most features from scriptingNews 2.0b1. “We’re trying to move towards a more standard format, and to this end we have included several tags from the popular format.” The RDF header is gone. 7/10/99.

UserLand adopts RSS 0.91, deprecates scriptingNews formats. 7/28/99.

The RSS team at Netscape evaporates.

UserLand’s RSS 0.91 specification. 6/4/00.

RSS 1.0 published as a proposal, worked on in private by a group led by Rael Dornfest at O’Reilly. Based on RDF and uses namespaces. Most elements of previous formats moved into modules. Like 0.90 it has an RDF header, but otherwise is a brand-new format, not related to any previous format. 8/14/00.

RSS 0.92, which is 0.91 with optional elements, designed by DW at UserLand. 12/25/00.

RSS 0.93 discussed but never deployed. 4/20/01.

MetaWeblog API merges RSS 0.92 with XML-RPC to provide a powerful blogging API. 3/14/02.

RSS 2.0, which is 0.92 with optional elements, designed by DW, after leaving UserLand. MetaWeblog API updated for RSS 2.0. While in development, this format was called 0.94. 9/18/02.

RSS 2.0 spec released through Harvard under a Creative Commons license. 7/15/03.

Want more traffic? An easy way to distribute your news? Then you need an RSS news feed. To start all you need is content you want broadcast, and one RSS text file.

What is RSS?

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a lightweight XML format designed for sharing headlines and other Web content. Think of it as a distributable “What’s New” for your site. Originated by UserLand in 1997 and subsequently used by Netscape to fill channels for Netcenter, RSS has evolved into a popular means of sharing content between sites (including the BBC, CNET, CNN, Disney, Forbes, Motley Fool, Wired, Red Herring, Salon, Slashdot, ZDNet, and more). RSS solves myriad problems webmasters commonly face, such as increasing traffic, and gathering and distributing news. RSS can also be the basis for additional content distribution services.

RSS Syntax

RSS defines an XML grammar (a set of HTML-like tags) for sharing news. Each RSS text file contains both static information about your site, plus dynamic information about your new stories, all surrounded by matching start and end tags.

Each story is defined by an
tag, which contains a headline TITLE, URL, and DESCRIPTION. Here’s an example:

...

RSS Resources

Defined in XML, the Rich Site Summary (RSS) format has
quietly become a dominant format for distributing headlines on the Web.
Our list of links gives you the tools, tips and tutorials you need to get
 started using RSS. 0323

...

Each RSS channel can contain up to 15 items and is easily parsed using Perl or other open source software. If you want more details on creating RSS files see Jonathan Eisenzopf’s excellent article in the February issue of Web Techniques. But you don’t have to worry about the details, we’ve made it easy to create your own RSS channel with free open source scripts, all Web based. More on these later.

Once you’ve created and validated your RSS text file, register it at the various aggregators, and watch the hits roll in. Any site can now grab and display your feed regularly, driving traffic your way. Update your RSS file, and all the external sites that subscribe to your feed will be automatically updated. What can be easier?
